No matter what it is, we have 2 decisions that we can make. We can continue on the course of disaster or we can change something about the situation.
Over my lifetime I have come to many of these and though it is sometimes seems like we are going into the great unknown or we are uncertain of ourselves, the best thing you can do is to change your ways. Prior to my divorce 8 years ago, I was put on anxiety pills. I felt like my world was spiraling out of control. Now a doctor's advice was to continue with the anxiety pills and then get on anti-depressants. However, I had seen many around me go down this path of "medicine fix" and seen them end up on various other medicines in the process and still were not happy. I made the choice of getting out of a bad relationship. When I hit a point that I could not make it month to month without credit cards or pulling money from my retirement account, I knew I had to make a change. I cut back my bills, my spending money on take-out foods and other forms of entertainment. I made do with what I absolutely needed and learned to meal plan. Now instead of being in a worse financial state, we live on a budget and are making our way to financial peace. They say you take on the traits of the 5 closest people to you. I am careful who I choose. I have never had a close group of friends and I have kept it that way for certain reasons. Look for positive, like-minded individuals who want to see you succeed and encourage you to pursue your dreams. When someone comes along who is going to push you to the next level, take them on. And finally wellness and health....I believe all the above is wrapped into one. For most it's a number on the scale, a pair of pants that no longer fit or that family picture that you look and think Whoa! what happened? Weight gets put on faster than you think and when you hit that point where you know you need to make a change, the earlier the better. When you start taking care of yourself, I believe the other areas in your life start to fall into place. Usually individuals fret about the financial cost of eating healthier, but they do not blink an eye at all of that fast food and dining out. In most cases you save money. Just as we start to budget our "caloric spending" we also become aware of our financial spending. At the same time, we have to look at the reason why we ate the way we did in the past. Maybe it is the people you hang out with at work or friends you hang out in the evening. What about a salad or shake and a walk around the parking lot instead of the chinese buffet? What about a night out skating, laser tag or bowling than out at the bar drinking? Once you identify what needs changed, it is up to you to take action. Where do you see yourself in 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or 1 year? Hopefully better off than where you are now. - Take Care, Jen
